Learn Texas Hold'em by Playing One Guided Hand

This is one fixed Texas Hold'em hand at a six-player table, and it plays out the same way every time. At each of your four turns only the action the lesson is teaching is enabled, so you cannot get lost — you learn what the button, the blinds, the flop, the turn and the river actually do by doing them once.

The four decisions you will make

  1. Preflop — call. You have two private cards nobody else can see. Matching the big blind is what buys you the right to see the flop.
  2. Flop — check. Three community cards arrive at once. Nobody has bet, so checking keeps you in the hand for free and shows you that not acting is an action.
  3. Turn — bet. A fourth community card lands. Now you put chips in yourself, which is how you charge the other players to keep looking.
  4. River — raise. The fifth and last community card is out. Raising over someone else's bet is the strongest thing you can do without going all in.

Hand ranks, strongest first

At showdown everyone still in the hand makes their best five cards out of their two private cards and the five shared ones. You may use both, one or neither of your own cards.
